Vocabulary


 1) Erosion- The weathering away of earth's surface by water, wind, ice, or other things.


 2) Drip tip- An elongatedleaf tip from which excess waterdrips off, as found in plants of the rainforest.

 

3) Epiphytes- A plant that grows on top of or is supported by another plant but does not depend on it for nutrition.


 4) Shallow root system- The roots of a strong tree which reach all the way down to give nutrients to the tree. 

 
5) Vines- A plant that supports itself by climbing, twining, or creeping along a surface.
 
6) lianas- climbing, woody, tropical vines.
 
7) emergent layer- Tallest layer in the rainforest. The tallest trees of 

the rainforest live here and they get a lot of sunlight.
 
8) canopy layer- primary layer of the rainforest(just below emergent 

layer). Most of the animals live here.
 
9) understory- layer just below the canopy, very little sunshine 

reaches here. 

10) forest floor- lowest layer of the rainforest, this layer is very

 dark and hardly any animals live but some plants like fungi.

11) water system- a river and all its branches.

12) flowering plants- plants that produce real seeds, these are the 

most known land plants.

13) non-flowering plants- plants that do not produce other seeds 

or other flowers.
